Working on cars every day when they’re your passion is a pretty sweet gig. Myles Borth had been interested in vehicles since he was a kid, because his dad restored cars as he grew up.
His older brother went to Universal Technical Institute (UTI). After Myles witnessed his brother’s success, he decided to take the same route and enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program at UTI in Sacramento, California.
Myles graduated UTI in 2008 and now works as a body technician for Caliber Collision, formerly Cooks Collision, in California. He loves coming to work every day to service some of the most luxurious cars available. He says he’s happy he started his journey at UTI.
“My experience at UTI was great, from start to finish,” says Myles. “The instructors were great. I learned a lot and found the right ways to fix a vehicle.”
The UTI Employment Assistance program helped Myles find a job close to home, where he has been since he graduated.
After completing the core auto technology program at UTI, Myles enrolled in the Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) Mercedes-Benz DRIVE Program. The 16-week program is mostly lab work, giving students the opportunity to learn on some of the world’s top cars.
During the Mercedes-Benz DRIVE Program, Myles learned how to diagnose and repair Mercedes-Benz vehicles, in courses covering topics like brakes and traction, disassembly, service and maintenance, electrical, telematics, suspension, engine management systems and climate control.
Today at his collision shop, Myles is the only technician who fixes German cars. Since he’s Mercedes-certified, he gets most of the Mercedes vehicles that come into the store for repair.
His shop sends him to training in Dallas up to three times a year, so Myles can keep up with new models and certifications that are coming out for the vehicles.
His other daily work includes repairing vehicles from start to finish, including diagnosing vehicles, taking them apart, repairing them properly to specifications and reassembling cars.
“What I like about coming to work is the atmosphere is really positive,” Myles says. “The employees I work with are really nice. The vehicles are also nice to work on.”
Myles says his 5-year goals is to continue on the path he’s on and eventually work his way into office management. He advises people who are interested in a job working on cars to follow in his footsteps.
“Some advice I would give is to definitely go through UTI,” Myles says. “It’s a great program to go through. They help you find a job after you graduate. Stay focused while you’re at UTI, because if you’re focused, that will get you a lot farther.”

Students get hands-on training on top vehicles, with supportive instructors. Classes start every 3 to 6 weeks, so there’s always an enrollment date available close by.
After completing the core program, students can enroll in an MSAT program. UTI offers MSAT programs for nearly 20 different brands, including Jeep, Dodge, Volvo and Fiat.
